The house next door to ours in the beautiful village of Isleham is No. 7 West Street. This sweet house is nestled in what would have been an old orchard belonging to our other neighbor's farmhouse and our barn, which would have formed part of an old farmyard in times past.

In the nearly 9 years since we have lived in our home, this little house has been home to a few different American couples and families who have been working on the nearby US military bases. Most recently, we have been blessed to call Erin and Cody our neighbour's, and what lovely neighbour's they have been.

It's always a pleasure to meet them on our shared driveway and catch up on their European adventures. They have been so kind, often dropping thoughtful gifts over the holiday season and sharing gluts of homegrown fruits and veggies over the summer months. They also reached out during times of need when we lost my father-in-law, dropping cards and gifts to cheer us all up.

We sure are going to miss them and wish them well with their next chapter. I was trying to think of a gift to pass on to them to say goodbye that would remind them of their time here in this rural fenland village set in the deepest depths of East Anglia. An illustration of their little cottage was the obvious idea, as Erin has always been a fan of my annual Isleham-themed Christmas cards. So here it is, "Patter's Cottage" (for which it will now always be known) on West Street, Isleham.
